And here’s another thing
you and I would consider
funny enough to laugh at

and might continue
to laugh until we were
laughing for the fun of laughing

but now you are gone
and I am left here
looking ridiculous

when I laugh out loud
at things designed solely
for the two of us to laugh at.

Even that thing
that just now arrived
on its usual crooked wings,

is not funny without you,
not the least bit amusing,
as you once quipped

to the woman in a ticket booth
on our way out of
a celebrated amusement park.
